Itinerary: Varna - Pliska - Madara Horsman - Shumen - Varna

•In the morning pick up from the hotel and depart from Varna

•Visit Pliska - the first Bulgarian capital and the cradle of the Bulgarian State, founded in 681 by Khan Asparuh. The town covered an area of 23 km2 and was surrounded by 21 km long defensive line built up of moat rampart. The Inner town had a rectangular shape, strong fortress walls, towers at each corner and two other towers at each wall. With its grate size and fortification system Pliska was a remarkable town in the early medieval ages. The remains of the Throne Chamber, the Small Palace, the impressive Big Basilica, water storage, baths, farm and residential building are preserved as an open air museum. The finds from the archaeological reserve are displayed in the museum exhibition.

•Continue to Madara Horseman, a mysterious relief, cut at a height of 23 m on to the almost vertical Madara rocks. It is the only one of its kindin Europe.

 
   
          
 
The relief is a composition of a horseman with a shepherd’s crook, a dog running after the horseman, a snake after it and a lion. Òhe monument symbolizes the victorious campaign of the Bulgarian rulers during the Middle Ages, about 3 decades after the foundation of the Bulgarian State.
 
 
•Proceed to the nearby village, lunch in a typical Bulgarian house - traditional dishes with glass of wine from the region
•Depart to Shumen
•Visit the Tombul Mosque, the biggest moscque in Bulgaria and one of the largest on the Balkans
•Free time in the city center
•In the late afternoon drive back to Varna
